We have lots of wonderful mothers at Bomstad Dental, but this Mother's Day we are spotlighting Laura and her two daughters, Brenna and Brooke. Laura has been Dr. Bomstad's assistant since 2012 and we are quite certain Dr. Bomstad could never function without her! Laura and her husband, Scott, live in Plymouth and are blessed with two beautiful girls and one very unique cat. Brooke is a junior at Wayzata High School and involved in many community service activities-most of these activities revolve around her love of kids. She has recently been chosen to participate in a new program at Wayzata High School called "Intro to Education" and is very excited about this opportunity. Next year she will get to go into her old elementary school and mentor kids. Laura and Brooke have recently taken up yoga and are loving it. Their cat loves it too. Believe it or not, their cat does yoga with them! Hmmm, a cat that does downward dog, now that's something I've gotta see-ha! Brenna is Laura … [Read more...]
Dr. Bomstad’s and Shelley’s Children Are Growing Up!
Through the years Dr. Bomstad and Shelley have enjoyed watching their children compete against each other. They each have two children. The boys are 10th graders and the girls are 7th graders. Dr. Bomstad's children are in the Buffalo school district, while Shelley's are in the Princeton school district. These two schools just happen to be in the same conference! It has been such a joy watching these kids grow up. The boys now have their driver's licenses, and the girls are turning into smart, beautiful, athletic young ladies. Here are some pictures from a track meet that both girls ran in. Enjoy! . … [Read more...]
Get to Know, Robin!
This month we are featuring Robin, our newest hygienist. Robin joined Bomstad Dental last year and we have enjoyed having her ever since then! Even though she is relatively new to Bomstad Dental, Robin has been a hygienist since 1984. She does such a nice job communicating with her patients and a thorough job cleaning their teeth. We really appreciate all of her hard work! Robin is our outdoorsy girl, she loves being outside more than anything. She is looking forward to summer, like most of us in Minnesota. Robin can't wait to spend time in her screen porch (where you might just find a good glass of wine in her hand)! She will also visit her cabin as much as possible, and has a trip planned to California and possibly one to Colorado too. Fittingly, Robin met her husband, Pat, at the lake the summer after her freshman year of college. They have two children. Emma is 22 and just graduated from Colorado State with a degree in Spanish & International Studies. Emma loves … [Read more...]
Root Canals Should NOT Be Feared!
The word 'root canal' conjures up feelings of fear and anxiety for a lot of people. However, this should not be the case. Root canals need to take place when the pulp inside of the tooth becomes infected. This can happen when there is a deep cavity, repeated dental procedures, trauma, a cracked or broken tooth. Patients at Bomstad Dental report root canals to be no different than any other dental procedure they have had done; easy and painless. Dr. Bomstad and Dr. Karban pride themselves on making their patients very comfortable in the dental chair. You may be in need of a root canal if your tooth becomes sensitive to hot or cold food or beverages or hurts when you bite down, it may mean that your tooth has become infected. Another sign of infection is if the tooth becomes discolored or if the gums around the tooth swell. In some cases, a tooth will have no symptoms, but a dental exam and x-ray will reveal a tooth that requires root canal. Again, if you find yourself if the … [Read more...]
Enamel Hypoplasia
BeforeAfter Dr. Bomstad fixed the front teeth of this young patient. He has enamel hypoplasia, this is the lack of normal enamel. Although this patient's case is not severe, it can be quite drastic for many people. It is believed to have happened to this patient due to medications he was taking when his teeth were developing. Other causes of enamel hypoplasia are malnutrition, illness, infection or fever while teeth are developing. You can see in the before picture there are yellow and white spots on the lower portion of his front teeth. After Dr. Bomstad finished removing these spots he filled them back in with composite filling material that matched the patient's tooth color. Now this patient has the teeth he was meant to have. It is amazing what dentists can accomplish today. If you would like help improving your smile, give Bomstad Dental a call today or click HERE for an appointment. 952-938-7746 … [Read more...]

Shelley Has Been with Bomstad Dental Since 1990!
Longevity is one of the reasons why Bomstad Dental is such a special place, and Shelley certainly makes the office special. Talk about longevity, she has been at Bomstad Dental since 1990! She started her career assisting Dr. Hatcher and currently assists Dr. Karban. When she's not assisting, you can see Shelley's smiling face at the front desk. Shelley plays an integral role keeping the office running smoothly. Not only is Shelley a true dental professional, but she is our resident travel professional as well! She has traveled extensively throughout Mexico, as well as Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Shelley's favorite location is Jamaica because of the water color and clarity, but her favorite memory came in Ixtapa. In Ixtapa, her husband may have ended up with bidet water in his face-I guess you shouldn't push buttons if you don't know what they do?! Oh, Lawrence! Shelley is currently enjoying Mazatlán with her family. Although we have been spoiled by the weather this … [Read more...]
Crochet Thread Easter Eggs
Crochet Thread Easter Eggs are an adorable craft you can do with your kids this time of year. We made these as a family over 10 years ago! It's hard to believe something so simple could last so long. Here are the supplies you will need: Balloons Crochet Thread 3 cups of granulated sugar 1 cup of water Lace/Ribbon/Decorations Blow up your balloon to the size you desire, wrap the crochet thread around the balloon in all different directions. You will need 1 spool of thread for each balloon. Don't worry about tying down the ends, the sugary mix will hold them in place. This can be difficult to start for little hands, so some assistance may be required. Once you have finished wrapping your balloon, boil the water and sugar. You will want to place your egg on a little bowl/ramekin/cut paper towel roll with a cookie sheet underneath to catch the drippings. When the mixture cools a bit, spoon it onto the thread. Your little ones will love using their … [Read more...]
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month
Reports show students miss 51 million hours of school due to oral health problems every year. This is why February is National Children's Dental Health month. We are encouraging parents to teach their children to brush their teeth for 2 minutes, twice a day. We suggest brushing your teeth with your child to help reinforce the importance of tooth brushing, after all they imitate everything you do! It is also important to teach them how to properly floss their teeth. Flossing is often overlooked, but is one of the most important things you can do for your teeth. Regular dental check ups are also important. Your child should have their teeth cleaned by a professional hygienist twice a year. Diet is an integral part of dental health care too. Sugary sweets should be kept to a minimum. An item often overlooked by parents are fruit snacks and other sticky substances, like gummy vitamins. Not only do fruit snacks have little nutritional value, but they stick to your child's teeth … [Read more...]
